Wayanad

The only plateau in Kerala. The Wayanad Plateau forms a continuation of the Mysore Plateau, the southern portion of Deccan Plateau which links the Western Ghats with the Eastern Ghats

Wayanad is a rural district in Kerala state, southwest India. In the east, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush, forested region with areas of high altitude, home to animals including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards and egrets. In the Ambukuthi Hills to the south, Edakkal Caves contain ancient petroglyphs, some dating back to the Neolithic age

PLACES TO VISIT IN WAYANAD DISTRICT :

1.Chembra Peak

Best ever trek in kalpetta region. Started around 5 and reached chembra around 5:30 just to make sure we get the slots to trek since the trek will be providing slots only for 200 people.
Good place to meet outsiders and join them for a group trek.
Trek experience was great and we found few snakes and salamanders on our way up.

2.Banasura Sagar Dam

Banasura Sagar Dam is one of the
best must see / visit place in Wayanad, It is the largest earth dam in India and the second largest of its kind in Asia. The dam is made up of massive stacks of stones and boulders.

3. Edakkal caves

A challenging adventure with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment despite the tough journey. A place with an astonishing combination of natural beauty and historical significance. The adventure offers a journey back in time, decoding messages left by ancestors. The cave contains historical symbols by early humans. Engraved Tamil Brahmi letters and pictorial representations on side rock walls. Unique rock formations, ancient symbols and carvings date back to 6000 BCE

4.Thirunelli temple

Very beautiful temple on foothill of brahmagiri mountains. We have to drive through forest to reach the temple. Temple dedicated to lord vishnu. There bali tharpanam is been done throughout the year
Visit to papanasini, padmatheertha pond, rock cave temple is also worth visiting.

5. Lakkidi view point

Situated at the height of approx. 700 meters above the sea level, the View Point is one of the loftiest points in the Wayanad, Kerala. This gorgeous view point comes amongst one of the wettest and greenest spots in India, which is full of unmatched scenic panoramas all over it that bestow it the exceptional glance.

6. Soochipara Falls ( Sentinel Rock waterfall )

These are beautiful waterfalls .It is a lovely hike down and the falls themselves are fun and refreshing. Bring a change of clothes if you plan to get into the water which most people do. Amazing waterfall. You have to walk a kilometre, but worth for the view and you can gel with Mother Nature. Chirping birds, Big big trees, monkeys, Malabar giant squirrel.

7.Kuruvadweep

The bamboo rafting across the river was amazing and the walk to the lake ahead through the jungle was refreshing. A bit away from the regular. The drive to the place is quite good. Once you reach, there is a car park ground and good rest rooms. Buy some tickets and off for the walk to the bamboo boats. The boats are operated by pulling around some ropes.

8.Meenmutty falls

This waterfall is located a short distance from Banasura Sagar Dam. Parking is available near the Forest Division ticket counter. You do need to walk some distance from the parking to reach the falls. The path is undulating and not in very good condition. You need to be very watchful
9. Karapuzha Dam Adventure park

It’s a small average dam which is not the main attraction, but the garden and adventure games are.
It’s Kerala’s longest zipline and a giant swing that puts your guts into test. The garden has some nice photo spots. The area of improvement would definitely be a dedicated parking space, and pathway/walkway near the dam.
